Seeking a Professional Home Health Aide (Ithaca)

compensation: $21 - $23/hour 8hrs a day 4 days a week, 10am-6pm

Health-insurance/Dental and 401k (available with 30hrs a week position).

We have a great job opening for a responsible and reliable home health aide to assist an individual with a mild cognitive disability and well-controlled epilepsy in the Ithaca area. Employee must have a safe clean car for transport. This position entails protective oversight and assistance with tasks of daily living, companionship, and some transportation support (details below). The pay is $21/hour. We would like the successful candidate to register and train with Springbrook NY, the fiscal representative of OPWDD. The candidate will help the individual to achieve certain daily life goals, such as independence, skill building, self-care and advocacy light exercise like walking. Completing billable notes that document working on these goals is required at the end of each day. Springbrook requires employees to pass fingerprinting, a background check and 10 hours of basic training (training time is paid at rate above).

About the individual requiring assistance:

- Easygoing, mature adult male, late 60’s

- Laid-back, likes to joke around

- College graduate

- Short-term memory impaired, suffers from confusion

- Infrequent seizures, complex partial type – approximately one/8-12 weeks

- Able to manage basic hygiene on his own, needs occasional prompting

- Arm’s length oversight while walking and when out in the community – has poor balance. - In addition to weekend meal prep, cleaning, and other tasks of daily living, curricula could include thinking games (Scrabble, easy Puzzles), Card games, art projects, reading aloud, light exercise/walking.

- Lives in a modern apartment in Downtown Ithaca.

Minimum Skills and Qualifications:

- High school diploma or equivalent

- Experience with individuals who have epilepsy and are developmentally disabled is preferred but not a must.

- Must have a valid driver’s license, safe clean car and must be willing to provide occasional transportation for person receiving services.

- Must be able to lift 50 lbs. independently and assist in lifting weight exceeding 50 lbs.

- An individual who demonstrates patience, consistency and an even temper is preferred.

- Professional verbal and written communication skills required.

- Internet access and proficiency in computer and smart phone use is necessary for training and logging daily visits.

Duties:

- Providing support with daily living tasks which may include occasional meal preparation, grocery shopping, cleaning, laundry, companionship, light exercise, errands, et al.

- Keeping individual safe from falls, especially during his infrequent seizures

- Assisting individual with community integration/habilitation and providing oversight in community and social settings

- Ensure individual participates in planning out each day and agrees to the plan

- Accompanying individual and providing oversight at throughout entire shift and during group activities.
