Asphalt Paving Operator

Operate equipment including asphalt roller, paver, screed, and skid steer. Must be willing to help crew on ground if needed. Assist with maintaining equipment, i.e., clean and grease equipment. Experience preferred, but willing to train right candidate.

Responsibilities:

Operate asphalt paver and/or screed to apply asphalt per plan and quality as instructed by crew superintendent.

Perform other required tasks as directed by asphalt foreman.

Operate screed, rollers or other asphalt equipment as required.

Must maintain an acute sense of awareness to the surrounding footprint of the machine. Watch for obstructions while operating the equipment. Such as: utilities, curbs, structures, or other equipment.

Ability to operate asphalt paver/screed within designated area with attention to detail and emphasis on craftsmanship including proper depth, elevation and finished cross section of asphalt material.

Maintain constant visual contact with screed operators and trucks in front of the paver.

Ability to guide and direct dump trucks while backing up to machine hopper when operating paver.

Knowledge and capability to oil, grease, service and make normal operating adjustments to equipment.

Capability to manipulate hand or foot lever to ensure proper machine spread and level asphalt surfaces on subgrade of parking lots, streets, driveways, or other similar surfaces.

Complete understanding of all aspects of the paving industry including preparatory work, grades, drainage, paving patterns, aggregate size, job specification, oil consistencies, compaction, and other details related to asphalt paving.

Requirements:

At least 1 year experience operating asphalt paver is a plus.

One to two years of heavy equipment operating experience is a plus.

Knowledge of road construction or civil site construction is required.

Must have good hand eye coordination and cognitive safety recognition while operating machinery.

Must be willing to work overtime, evenings, and weekends when necessary.

Ability to work in a variety of weather conditions including heat, cold, wind, rain and dust.

Ability to communicate with supervisors, co-workers, contractors, customers, and the general public in a courteous and professional manner at all times.

Must be a team player.

Workers must be punctual and reliable.

Ability to ensure a safe work environment in compliance with all safety policies and procedures.

Must have and maintain a valid driver’s license.

Job requires stretching, bending , lifting, pushing, pulling, twisting, throwing, walking, standing, reaching, and squatting.

Requires lifting of up to 50 lbs.

Pay is weekly. Direct Deposit after 30 days of employment. Benefits include Medical, Dental, and Vision after 60 days of full-time employment (average 30 hours per week). Retirement 401k plan available with up to 3% employer match after 1 year employment.
