Under general supervision, the Maintenance Mechanic 1 performs semi-skilled and sub-journey work in the maintenance, repair, remodeling, alterations, and construction of buildings, grounds, facilities, and equipment. This position works independently in routine maintenance assignments or under the technical direction of a journey-level position. The Maintenance Mechanic 1 reports directly to the Building and Grounds Manager. This position requires regular and consistent attendance.
Essential Functions
The Maintenance Mechanic 1 will be responsible for the following, but not limited to:
Equipment and Systems
At a sub-journey work level, will operate, monitor, maintain, repair, replace, install, modify, construct, and fabricate structures, fixtures, furniture, appliances, and other equipment and systems.
Electrical Equipment and Systems
At a semi-skilled work level, will operate, monitor, maintain, repair, replace, install, modify, construct, and fabricate the electrical distribution equipment and systems, lighting equipment and systems, electric motors, and electrical resistance equipment and systems, security equipment and systems, fire detection equipment and systems, control equipment and systems and various other electrical equipment and systems. AC and DC, single and 3 phase that is less than 600 volts.
HVACR Equipment and Systems
At a semi-skilled work level: operate, monitor, maintain, repair, replace, install, modify, construct, and fabricate the conditioned air generation and distribution equipment and systems, heating water generation and distribution equipment and systems, cooling water generation and distribution equipment and systems, compressed air generation and distribution equipment and systems, vacuum generation and distribution equipment and systems, pressure vessels, refrigeration equipment and systems, gas fired equipment and systems, ventilation equipment, and various other HVACR equipment and systems.
Plumbing Equipment and Systems
At a sub-journey work level: operate, monitor, maintain, repair, replace, install, modify, construct, and fabricate the potable cold water distribution equipment and systems, potable hot water generation and distribution equipment, and systems, drain, waste, vent (DWV) equipment and systems, sewer equipment and systems, drainage equipment and systems and various other plumbing equipment and systems.
Other Duties
Operate and maintain utility carts, forklifts, and other vehicles at a semi-skilled level. Operate two-way radios, cell phones, computers, and other electronic devices. Remove snow and ice from building entrances, walkways, and parking lots.
Respond to and perform emergency functions as required. Observe and report suspicious activity. Be accountable for assigned keys, tools, equipment, and supplies. Maintain inventories and submit tools, supplies, and equipment requisitions to the supervisor. May be required to perform custodial, grounds, or other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
Education Required
GED or High School Diploma
Experience Required
Minimum two (2) years of experience in the building trade industry maintaining, repairing, and diagnosing building plumbing and mechanical systems at a semi-skilled work level and building electrical and HVAC systems at a subĀ journey level.
Semi-skilled work level of knowledge and experience in the maintenance, repair, and diagnostics of building plumbing systems.
Semi-skilled work level of knowledge and experience in the maintenance, repair, and diagnostics of building mechanical systems.
Sub-journey skill level knowledge and experience in building HVAC systems and equipment maintenance, repair, and diagnostics.
Sub-journey skill level, knowledge, and experience in the maintenance, repair, and diagnostics of building electrical systems and equipment.
Special Requirements
The successful candidate must consent to and pass a criminal background check after a conditional offer of
employment.
Valid driver's license.
Must pass driver's record check.
