Job ID: 23-21262Pay Range: $54k- $70k/annum. Employee benefits include, but are not limited to, health insurance (medical, dental, vision), 401(k) plan, and paid sick leave (depending on work location).

Key Responsibilities:
  • Responsible for significant maintenance and repairs of general medical equipment/systems.
  • Performs skilled work in the inspection, preventative maintenance, repair and safety testing of patient care medical devices as needed.
  • Performs repairs in accordance with manufacturer, industry standards, and regulatory agencies.
  • Recommends and maintains necessary tools and test equipment to support technical needs.
  • Recognizes immediate and potential problems in order to take appropriate action to safeguard patients from associated equipment and chemical hazards while adhering to requirements of AAMI, OSHA, HCFA, TJC and other local, state and federal regulatory agencies. Will be available to assist technicians and perform level I duties when requested.
  • Initiates, and/or completes work requests, maintains documentation of official records and validation of all services performed by contractors, vendors, and department.
  • The Biomedical Equipment Technician II (BMET II) is required to install, inspect, troubleshoot, repair, calibrate, and verify the performance of complex biomedical equipment with minimal supervision
  • The individual should be competent in the use of all applicable test equipment and tools required in the performance of these duties
  • The Biomedical Equipment Technician II may serve as technical adviser to the medical and clinical staff in the safe operation and use of clinical equipment
  • Perform scheduled preventative maintenance (PM), electrical safety checks (ESC), and operation verification procedures (OVP) on complex and intricate biomedical equipment
  • Inform supervisors of the status of repairs, scheduled inspections, unusual equipment situations, and any customer concerns
  • Work with, direct, and document the activities of subcontractors, vendors, and outside service technicians to ensure proper service delivery
  • Maintains accurate medical equipment documentation.
  • Supervises services provided by outside vendors to ensure quality and scope of services are met.
  • Maintains current knowledge of pertinent regulatory agencies and the policies, codes, standards, and regulations that apply to the clinical equipment.
  • Inspects incoming equipment for compliance with codes, standards, and manufacturer recommendations.
  • Orders parts and supplies necessary for the servicing of medical equipment.
  • Provides technical guidance, mentoring, and training to other employees in the department.
  • Serves as a reference source for engineering and clinical staff with regards to appropriate procedures for the operation and maintenance of clinical equipment.
  • Uses office automation hardware and software and diagnostic service software.
  • Updates medical equipment technical library as new versions are available.
  • Adheres to University and unit-level policies and procedures and safeguards University assets.
  • Completes 100% of scheduled ITM’s assigned on a monthly basis.
  • Repairs, tests, and calibrates medical equipment according to OEM/AEM specifications in accordance with Joint Commission standards.
  • Ability to exhibit strong critical thinking and problem-solving skills.
  • Performs planned maintenance and electrical safety inspections on a broad range of patient care and selected support equipment in compliance with established standards.
  • Manages all assigned equipment and schedules service.
  • Performs pre-acceptance inspections and develop PM procedures on equipment; maintains files on procedures and manuals.
  • Ensures test equipment is working properly and calibrated within established intervals.
  • Responds expeditiously to calls from clinical departments to evaluate and rectify valid operator complaints and concerns.
  • Some examples include pacemakers, infusion pumps, the heart-lung machine, dialysis machines, artificial organs, implants, artificial limbs, corrective lenses, cochlear implants, ocular prosthetics, facial prosthetics, somato prosthetics, and dental implants.

Key Requirements and Technology Experience:
  • Associate degree in biomedical engineering technology or related field or over eight years of relevant experience is required.
  • Two years of experience in a full-service biomedical section, department or company is required; five years of experience is preferred.
  • Certified Biomedical Equipment Technician (CBET) – MUST HAVE
  • 2 years servicing clinical/patient care equipment in a hospital environment
  • For field service positions requiring travel, valid driver’s license is required
  • Ability to work independently with some supervision
  • Good communication and strong customer service skills
  • Good organization and time management skills
  • Working knowledge of computer applications pertaining to tracking service histories and producing reports on assets
  • Good trouble-shooting skills
  • Ability and willingness to serve "on-call" duty as required
  • Strong work ethic and ability to work as a member of a team
