Application Development Manager / Lead

Our firm has been exclusively retained to help support the growth of one of the largest retailers in the music industry. Currently, they are looking for an experienced Software Engineer with experience across the application stack, to come in and serve in a Development Manager capacity for all internal application and system development efforts. The Role You’ll PlayAs a hands-on Development Manager, you will be responsible for directing and managing the activities of a team of developers (currently offshore, but will be building a team in-house) involved in the design, development, deployment, and support of IT systems. This is a newly created role to oversee internal application development. You will lead, coordinate, and integrate multiple large and complex application development programs that have significant business impact.

• Drive the Application Development services delivery, projects, and the development organization toward achieving the intended business results aligning with enterprise strategies
• Work in an Agile team working on concurrent projects
• Manage/coordinate the tasks of the outsourced development team
• Perform design and code reviews regularly
• Utilize company-specific programming standards and techniques to assure efficient program logic, data manipulation, and supportability.
• Provide advanced problem-solving and technical support for one or more modules
• Validate project design, business impact, and resolution of implementation issues
• Communicate effectively with Business and Technology partners
• Review technical architecture of new and ongoing projects to ensure long-term simplicity, scalability, maintainability, security, and reliability
• Work with technical operations and support teams to increase the stability and reliability of the deployment environments

Background Profile: This is an ideal position for someone with an application development background and perhaps some lead experience who wants to take the next step toward the management of a team while still remaining hands-on.

• 5+ years of web application development experience with Java
• Database and integration experience using RESTful API, SQL, and web services
• Ability to manage projects with evolving priorities and deadlines and experience managing both internal resources and, as needed, external contractors/vendors. Ability to organize, prioritize and schedule work assignments.
• Strong written, verbal, and presentation skills are required. Excellent facilitation skills are required to drive the resolution of complex business and technical problems.
• Highly organized, capable of managing multiple, complex tasks, and able to work with several groups at once.
• Experience in an Agile team working on concurrent projects

Preferred:

• Experience with MERN stack (React.js and Node.js)
• Experience with CI/CD and Knowledge of Docker/Kubernetes
• Experience with RPA / automation tools such as Microsoft Power Automate
