(This recruitment series is to fill multiple positions. To be considered qualified, an applicant must meet the minimum requirements for one of the following three levels of the Transportation Operations Utility Worker positions.)

Transportation Operations Utility Worker I

Grade 8 – Salary $3762 - $4785

PURPOSE OF POSITION:

Performs a variety of unskilled, semi-skilled and skilled tasks in the Public Works Transportation Operations Division and related work in the Public Works Department as required.

JOB QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:

Mandatory Requirements:

High school diploma, or GED equivalent, and a minimum of one (1) year verifiable work experience and training in street maintenance and/or closely related construction experience, which has provided specific knowledge in the area assigned; or any equivalent combination of experience and training which demonstrates the ability to perform the above-described duties.

Ability to operate automobiles, pickup and utility trucks, equipment, machines, and tools safely and in conformance with applicable laws, regulations, and work rules; understand and carry out written and oral instructions; work independently, or as part of a work crew in performance of regular assignments; establish and maintain effective working relationships with other employees, supervisors, and the public.

Special Requirements/Licenses:

The position requires employees to operate a motor vehicle in the course of their position. Possession of, or must obtain within thirty (30) days from date of hire, a valid Oregon driver’s license.

Must have and maintain a safe driving record.

Possession of, or must obtain within six (6) months from date of hire, a valid Oregon Class A Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) to operate Public Works Department vehicles and equipment.

Possession of a current, or must obtain within six (6) months from date of hire, ODOT Flagger certificate and First Aid/CPR certification.

Possession of, or ability to obtain, any certifications or licenses required by City, State, or Federal agencies to work in the position assigned.

Desirable Requirements:

For desirable requirements to be considered, one must have met the minimum requirements noted above:

- Oregon Public Herbicide/Pesticide Applicators License

- Oregon Roads Scholar Level 1 certification

- Twelve (12) months verifiable streets maintenance experience with a municipal (county/city) government entity.

- Twelve (12) months verifiable work experience with asphalt/cement repair and replacement

PERSONAL PROTECTIVE EQUIPTMENT:

PPE requirements as outlined in the position specific PPE Hazard Assessment Certification.

Transportation Operations Utility Worker II

Grade 10 – Salary $4147 - $5275

PURPOSE OF POSITION:

Performs a variety of unskilled, semi-skilled and skilled tasks in the Public Works Transportation Operations Division and related work in the Public Works Department as required. Occasionally provides informal equipment and procedural training to other employees, occasionally directs small task groups.

JOB QUALIFICATIONS REQUIREMENTS:

Mandatory Requirements:

High school diploma, or GED equivalent, and a minimum three (3) years of experience and training in street maintenance, repair and construction which has provided specific knowledge in the area assigned; or any equivalent combination of experience and training which demonstrates the ability to perform the above-described duties.

Ability to operate automobiles, pickup and utility trucks, equipment, machines, and tools safely and in conformance with applicable laws, regulations, and work rules; understand and carry out written and oral instructions; work independently, or as part of a work crew in performance of regular assignments; establish and maintain effective working relationships with other employees, supervisors, and the public.

This position will require the use of a City vehicle. Possession of, or must obtain, a valid Oregon driver’s license within thirty (30) days from date of hire.

Must have and maintain a safe driving record.

Possession of, or must obtain within six (6) months from date of hire, a valid Oregon CDL license of the required classification to operate Public Works Department vehicles and equipment.

Possession of, or ability to obtain, a Public Herbicide/Pesticide Applicators License, ODOT Flagger certificate, and First Aid/CPR certification within six (6) months from date of employment.

Possession of, or ability to obtain, any certifications or licenses required by City, State, or Federal agencies to work in the position assigned.

Desirable Requirements:

For desirable requirements to be considered, one must have met the minimum requirements noted above:

- Traffic Control Trainee Certification

- Five (3) plus years verifiable work experience with a government entity,

- Five (3) plus years verifiable work experience with asphalt/cement repair and replacement.

- Competent at operating Class A commercial Vehicles, loaders, skid-steers, and backhoes.

Transportation Operations Utility Worker III

Grade 12 – Salary $4572 - $5816

PURPOSE OF POSITION:

Performs the duties of a skilled journeyman level utility worker in the Public Works Transportation Operations Division to repair and maintain the city’s streets, alleys, and rights-of-way within the city. May function as a leader of small task group activities; regularly provides informal equipment and procedural training to other employees. May occasionally be assigned lead duties.

JOB QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:

Mandatory Requirements:

High school diploma, or GED equivalent, (5) years of experience in street maintenance, repair, and/or closely related construction which has provided specific knowledge in the area assigned; or any equivalent combination of experience and training which demonstrates the ability to perform the above-described duties.

Ability to operate automobiles, pickup and utility trucks, heavy equipment, machines, and tools safely and in conformance with applicable laws, regulations, and work rules; understand and carry out written and oral instructions; work independently, or as part of a work crew in performance of regular assignments; establish and maintain effective working relationships with other employees, supervisors, and the public.
