We are looking for a night time caregiver for my mom for up to 5 nights / week. My mom is 80 years old and has Glioblastoma (an aggressive form of brain cancer). She has expressive and receptive aphasia and communicating with her requires patience, kindness and intuition. She is a fairly solid sleeper but does have bouts of coughing at night that need help to resolve. She lives in an apartment in downtown Marshall, about 30 minutes from Asheville.
She is a Hoyer lift so at night she stays in her bed and has an external catheter. She needs to be checked 2-3 times / night but unless the catheter has malfunctioned, she does not need to be changed. The shift starts at 5:30 p.m. and ends at 10:30 a.m. so that there is overlap with the daytime caregivers for the Hoyer lift and cleaning / changing her.
She has a medium sized incredibly sweet dog that lives with her as well. I live about 15 minutes away and am always on call as back-up should there be an emergency.
Anyone applying needs to have caregiving experience, good references for past caregiving jobs and a solid work ethic. Preference given to those who are CNA's.
