Position Overview - As the full-time Café and Bar General Manager of our 25-seat café and bar, you are responsible for helping us in our mission to provide our guests with a delicious and memorable dining experience, to support and encourage local businesses, and to create a fun and supportive work environment for our employees. The Café and Bar General Manager will be responsible for managing both the “front” and “back” of house, ensuring excellent customer service, efficient kitchen operations, and a positive work environment for our employees in our fully open kitchen. The ideal candidate should have a strong background in restaurant management, exceptional leadership skills, and a passion for delivering an outstanding dining experience to our guests. You are expected to be an active member and lead for our team, facilitating the operations of the restaurant in any way, including cashiering, prepping, cooking, plating, cleaning, and more. This is a multi-dimensional role perfect for someone looking to do a little bit of everything.

Responsibilities:

1. Leadership and Team Management:

Lead, train, and motivate team members to deliver exceptional customer service and maintain high-quality food standards.

Foster a positive and collaborative work environment, promoting teamwork and professional growth among employees.

Conduct regular staff meetings, provide feedback, and address performance issues promptly.

Continuously seek opportunities for improvement and implement efficient processes to enhance overall restaurant operations.

Identify opportunities for business growth and expansion and collaborate with stakeholders to develop and implement expansion plans.

2. Customer Service and Guest Experience:

Ensure that every guest receives exceptional service and a memorable dining experience.

Ensure the highest level of cleanliness for optimal guest experience, including plant care, tidiness, and organization.

Monitor customer feedback and online reviews to address any issues promptly and maintain a positive reputation for the restaurant.

Handle event and catering inquiries with a sense of urgency, providing accurate information and excellent service to potential clients.

Implement strategies to build strong customer relationships and encourage repeat business.

Hosting, planning, and executing all programming events, such as cooking and cocktail classes, game nights, and private events.

3. Operations Management:

Oversee and manage all aspects of the restaurant's day-to-day operations, including the front and back of house, bar, and customer service areas.

Set and maintain high standards for service, cleanliness, and overall presentation of the establishment.

Monitor food quality, presentation, and consistency to meet or exceed customer expectations.

Rotate menu items seasonally while keeping costing in line with budgeting standards.

Implement and enforce health and safety standards to maintain a clean and safe environment for customers and employees.

Collaborate with the kitchen team to manage inventory, control food costs, and minimize wastage.

4. Financial Management:

Develop and manage budgets to achieve revenue and profitability goals.

Facilitate cash management including bank drops, reconciliation of the cash box, tip management and distribution, and implementation of anti-theft procedures.

Monitor financial performance and take appropriate actions to address any deviations from targets.

Implement cost-control measures without compromising on food quality or service.

Maximize revenue opportunities through upselling, promotions, and special events.

5. Quality Control:

Maintain consistent food quality, presentation, and portioning by working closely with the kitchen and culinary team.

Ensure compliance with health and safety regulations and uphold sanitation standards to provide a safe and clean environment for customers and employees.

6. Vendor and Supplier Management:

Source and work with vendors and suppliers to obtain high-quality ingredients and restaurant supplies at competitive prices regularly.

Manage relationships with vendors to ensure timely delivery and adherence to service standards.

7. Marketing and Promotion:

Collaborate with the marketing team to create and execute effective marketing strategies and promotional campaigns.

Engage in local community events and initiatives to enhance the restaurant's presence and attract new customers.

8. Employee Management:

Recruit, hire, onboard, train, mentor, manage payment for, and terminate (as required) a diverse team of restaurant staff.

Provide leadership and support to the team, fostering a positive work environment, and promoting teamwork and professional growth.

Conduct regular performance evaluations, collect Q12s bi-annually (2x per year), provide feedback, and implement training programs to improve staff skills and knowledge.

Ensure all employees take scheduled breaks and leaves as directed by labor laws and company policies.

Maintain accurate records of employee working hours and break schedules.

Conduct team member reviews as required for disciplinary action and growth as directed by labor laws and company policies.

Applicants must have:

Proven experience as a General Manager or similar role in the restaurant industry.

Strong leadership and interpersonal skills, with the ability to inspire and motivate a diverse team.

Excellent problem-solving abilities and decision-making skills.

Exceptional customer service orientation and ability to handle customer feedback professionally.

Proficient in financial analysis, budgeting, and cost control.

In-depth knowledge of food safety and sanitation regulations.

Familiarity with restaurant POS systems and other relevant software.

Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and adapt to changing priorities.

Strong communication skills, both written and verbal.
