Title: Packaging EngineerLocation: Saint Louis, MODuration: 18 Months

Job Description:
  • Plans, conducts, or coordinates Packaging Engineering functions covering all aspects of unit packaging operations as applied in the production of wet pet foods. Technical expertise to include all aspects of packaging, in terms of packaging lines, equipment design, and application. This role is primarily working on the development of the Wet Engineering Packaging Standards project. May also included working on the development of the Dry and Treats Engineering Packaging Standards projects.

Job Responsibilities:
  • 90% - Provide Packaging Engineering design and review for capital projects (Wet, Dry, or Treats Engineering Standards) including detailed phases of the packaging engineering work, and related documentation. Requires coordination of work by outside consultants and suppliers, broad knowledge of precedents in the specialty area, and an understanding of principles and practices in related specialties. Requires strong communications skills and ability to perform well on teams. Ability to complete block flow diagrams, 'v-curves', process flow diagrams, conveyor accumulation calculations, packaging line balancing design, basic process of operation descriptions, P&IDs, and equipment specifications.
  • 10% - Provide packaging engineering technical assistance to operating facilities. Includes planning/implementing investigation and analysis in problem areas or areas of opportunity for packaging improvement. Requires ability to collaborate with and contribute to cross functional teams.

Experience and Education Required:
  • Minimum Bachelor of Science Degree in Engineering Preferred Mechanical, Industrial, Management, or equivalent combination of education and experience
  • 5+ years of experience in the following required; 7+ years' experience preferred:
  • Packaging design, packaging equipment, packaging instrumentation, manufacturing operations, and packaging engineering support roles in food, pharmaceutical or consumer products industries. Experience with packaging equipment and packaging line design preferred.
  • Team oriented with excellent troubleshooting skills.
  • Experience with industrializing new packaging technologies.
  • Experience with block flow diagrams, 'v-curves', process flow diagrams, conveyor accumulation calculations, basic process of operation descriptions, P&IDs, packaging line balancing design, and packaging equipment specifications.

Travel:
  • 15% to factory locations and construction sites for field data gathering, scope development, and project reviews, construction support, and commissioning/start-up.
