Title: Mechanical Engineering Designer/DrafterLocation: Saint Louis, MODuration: 18 Months

Job Description:
  • Plans, designs, and provides graphic support for all phases of process engineering work. Provide Engineering Design and Drafting support within NPSC and externally (e.g. with Manufacturing factories globally, Divisional Engineering, Technical Applications, PTC, vendors, etc.) as required on a wide variety of projects. Responsible for design and revision control of all proprietary equipment manufactured for Client. Direct support to NPSC manufacturing and assembly operations.

Primary Responsibilities:
  • Plan, organize and deliver the necessary engineering design, statistical analysis, creativity, and innovation as required to deliver mechanical development projects that meet or exceed client requirements in a timely manner
  • Develop predictive engineering design models and simulation of food equipment, systems, and processes
  • Work and communicate with project leaders and engineers to develop reliable models that can be applied to practical development projects and industrialization
  • Exploit process and equipment performance models to obtain objectives
  • Provide engineering input and assistance within the PTC and externally (e.g. with Marketing, Manufacturing, Vendors, etc.) as required on a wide variety of projects
  • Function as a project team leader as assigned. Required activities include, but are not limited to:
  • Providing effective project leadership for the projects assigned
  • Adherence to Company policy on protection of patent rights and intellectual property
  • Ensuring all appropriate documents and project records are filed in the Central Project Files, whether paper or electronic
  • Effectively communicate results through oral presentations and timely, written technical documentation and reports
  • Conduct all activity in compliance with Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP), Good Laboratory Practices (GLP) and all required Company policies and procedures
  • Travel as necessary
  • Practice safety in the work area

Basic Qualifications (Minimum):Education:
  • Associates Degree in Mechanical Engineering

Experience (Years/Type):
  • 3 years minimum in a manufacturing, machine shop or R&D design role

Skills:
  • Good communication, interpersonal, and organizational skills
  • Must be able to manage multiple projects/priorities
  • Pro-active/Self-Starter
  • Good sense of business/technical interrelationships
  • Computer literacy
  • Demonstrated proficiency in mechanical design, GD&T, tolerance stack-up, Design for Manufacturability (DFM), and specification development
  • Strong working knowledge of 3D modeling and engineering drawings, proficient with AutoCAD, Inventor, Vault, or SolidWorks and MS Office
  • Strong experience with a variety of manufacturing processes
  • Excellent mechanical/process development skills and a fundamental understanding of process control and instrumentation
  • Demonstrated technical leadership skills in engineering
  • Proven skills in issue identification, problem structuring, requirement definition, and solution finding
  • Knowledge and working experience of project management and prioritizing
  • Ability to manage change, results, and impact, ready to cope with ambiguity and uncertainty
  • Ability to think critically, make assessments and help management solve business problems.
  • Self-motivated, responsible, and able to work independently
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal and organizational skills
  • Experience working in a cross-functional development environment. Effective contributor in a team environment
  • Strong technical writing and presentation skills.

Specialized Knowledge/Skills preferred but not required:
  • Manufacturing experience within a production and/or maintenance role
  • Demonstrated expertise in solid mechanics and develop models for stress, thermal, kinetic, dynamics, and vibration analysis
  • Knowledge of fatigue, fracture mechanics and strong background in material engineering
  • Practical experience in process modeling, competent in developing physical equations
  • Strong analytical, quantitative, and statistical skills including optimization, Design of Experiments, linear & nonlinear regression, time series, variance analysis, deterministic, distribution & probability modeling techniques
  • Experience in matrix management, experimental design and optimization
  • Advanced MS Excel proficiency, i.e. Visual Basic macros, databases, array functions, routine programming, combination charts/graphs, etc.
  • Working knowledge of finite element analysis
