Job Summary

Under the direction of the Director of House Operations, the Volunteer Services and Outreach Manager is responsible for managing the Volunteer Program and Volunteer Outreach Program. The position also includes some guest and facility related duties. This position is subject to the general policies established by the Board of Directors.

Essential Duties

1. Creates and manages RMHC-HI’s recruitment, training, scheduling, supervision, recognition, and retention programs for volunteers and volunteer groups at Hawaii’s Ronald McDonald House.

2. Designs a Volunteer Outreach Program focused on community networking to create new volunteer service opportunities and activities.

3. Develops training and curriculum-based activities to support House programs utilizing volunteers (e.g. shuttle transportation service, dinner programs, work study and student shadowing programs). Organizes orientation and training sessions that assure volunteers a positive, productive experience.

4. Serves as staff liaison and support for fundraising and house-related volunteer assignments. Develops guidelines and oversees activities as needed for volunteer projects.

5. Identifies and develops training and service opportunities for volunteers. Regularly assesses the program to identify new opportunities for volunteer involvement in the fulfillment of RMHC-HI’s mission.

6. Manages volunteer schedules and assignments to meet the day-to-day operational and family service needs of RMHC-HI. Maintains master schedule and assigns or replaces volunteers as necessary to meet House and program needs.

7. Produces regular Volunteer Newsletter for distribution to volunteer corps.

8. Coordinates volunteer appreciation and volunteer recognition activities.

9. Develops and maintains volunteer program materials and manuals for orientation/training and on-going services.

10. Maintains up-to-date data base of volunteer information, including background, history, length of service, hours worked, projects, etc.

11. Other duties as assigned.

Requirements

1. Bachelor’s degree or equivalent course work/training from an accredited college or university in marketing, business, communications, volunteer services management, or related field.

2. Effective time-management, organizational skills and management of details with ability to prioritize and multi-task.

3. Excellent interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills. Ability to develop and give effective presentations.

4. Ability to work within a team environment. Positive attitude, with sensitivity to the needs of guest families and co-workers.

5. High energy level, creativity, flexibility and problem-solving skills.

6. Strong budget management skills.

7. Proficient in Microsoft Office applications, including Word, Excel, Outlook; PowerPoint a plus.

8. Ability to lift up to 25 pounds. Tasks associated with this position may require considerable or frequent walking, standing, bending, stooping, lifting, pushing, or reaching overhead.

9. Available to work Monday through Friday, 8AM – 5PM, in addition to evenings and weekends as required.

10. Valid driver’s license and clean driver’s abstract for the operation of House vehicles to transport House guests, run errands, deliver/pick up House supplies, materials, donations, etc.

11. CPR Certification required for all staff with House Manager responsibilities.

12. Commitment to the mission and goals of the organization.

Hours: Mon-Fri 8:00 AM-5:00 PM, in addition to evenings and weekends as required.
