The responsibilities of the position include, but are not limited to, the following:

  • Work with a team of technical service and R&D scientists to evaluate and develop battery component materials.

  • Utilize characterization tools to develop fundamental understanding of polymer composites.

  • Develop and advance laboratory testing capabilities, evaluate results, and determine improvements or changes needed to achieve goals. Drive safety and a focus on building knowledge and documentation.

  • Engage with marketing and sales functions to understand customer needs and translate them into CTQs

  • Collaborate with national laboratories, universities and industry partners to align on and to reach key milestones and deliverables with efficient resource allocations.

  • Assist in the development and execution of a product development pipeline for next generation lithium batteries including binder, separator, and other relevant battery materials, meeting key milestones and timelines.

  • Collaborate with global laboratories to support product development and customer requirements.

The following is required for this role:

  • Bachelors, Masters, or equivalent degree in Chemical or Material Science or Chemistry.

  • Strong understanding of polymer structure-property-processing relationship

  • 3+ years experience in battery related research and development

  • Technical Experience with advanced materials R&D and/or Technical Service

The following is preferred for this role:

  • Additional education preferred PhD with experience in lithium ion battery materials and/or systems engineering a plus.

  • Technical experience in polymer synthesis, design of experiments, production scaleup

  • Experience leading technology projects, presenting results and resourcing laboratories.
