GRID Alternatives’ Tribal Program has worked since 2010 with Indigenous Nations across the United States to achieve their renewable energy goals. Using a community-centric approach, we partner with Tribes to identify, develop, finance and implement solar power projects that meet community needs, including education, hands-on training, and energy cost reductions for tribal members.
The Opportunity
Based in Denver, CO, our team serves tribal communities where GRID offices do not exist. We are offering a position for a Solar Installation Supervisor to support the Tribal Program with solar photovoltaic installation and training.
Key Responsibilities Include:
Work with the Deputy Director/Project Manager, Construction Manager to oversee and Construction Team including mentoring SolarCorps
Responsible for all technical and safety aspects of PV installations, including off-grid and commercial installations
Conduct and/or manage site visits to screen potential sites for solar access and safety issues
Design and engineer off-grid, residential and commercial solar electric systems
Put together permit packages, utility interconnection agreements, electrical inspections, and assist with rebate paperwork
Train and lead volunteers and/or trainees in solar PV electric installation
Ensure that all solar installations are installed according to GRID Alternatives safety and quality standards
Work with Director and Deputy Director/Project Manager on strategic goals, timelines and production schedule
Arrange and/or manage travel logistics for construction team
Document all work for quality assurance and quality control
Other responsibilities include equipment purchasing, hardware store runs, equipment unloading and loading, answering homeowner and volunteer questions, talking to media and generally participating in activities necessary to make solar happen for low-income families
What you need to bring to this role…
Experience in PV system installation, design, and troubleshooting, including off-grid
Experience leading a crew in PV installation
Excellent communication skills (ability to work with volunteers and clients, ability to represent GRID Alternatives positively)
Comfortable working as part of a team
Comfortable working with culturally diverse Native American populations
Flexibility and willingness to embrace change, go the extra mile, and bring ideas and energy to rapidly growing organization
Willingness to work on evenings and weekends
Extensive travel throughout the United States at least 2-3 weeks out of the month
Ability to lift up to 40 lbs.
Highly organized and detail-oriented
Ability to ascend/descend a ladder to install and service solar systems
Comfortable in outdoor weather conditions
Passion for sustainability, affordable housing, the environment, environmental justice, or just generally grounded in making the world a better place
It would be great if you also had…
Experience in training and/or working with volunteers
Proficiency with Microsoft and Google Suites, Sketchup or AutoCAD
NABCEP certification
Experience with Salesforce or similar CRM database
Where you will sit & the places you may go…
The Tribal Program operates and manages projects from Denver, CO. This position will be hybrid based out of the Denver office. The Solar Installer Supervisor will support the Tribal Program staff on all aspects of the solar PV installation. Travel outside the Denver metro area and outside of Colorado is expected and required. Availability to work nights and weekends may rarely be required. GRID Alternatives may provide vehicles for work travel and/or travel reimbursement for personal vehicle use, but applicants must hold a valid driver’s license and good driving record.

This is a full-time, non-exempt position. Hourly pay range $28.00-$32.00, commensurate with experience.
