Medicine Horse is in search of a Onsite Caretaker for an equine facility in NE Boulder County/SE Longmont. We are a CO 501c3 nonprofit with a mission to provide equine facilitated therapy and learning services at no cost to in-need and underserved populations. GENERAL JOB DESCRIPTION
The Onsite Caretaker position is responsible for managing the health and welfare for all animals at our facility. This position performs the duties and tasks necessary to keep the facility and program up to high standards. The Onsite Caretaker will work in close collaboration with the Executive Director, boarders and the therapists regarding animal care, property usage and management.
HOURS AND AVAILABILITY
Lives onsite
ESSENTIAL DUTIES
Ensures the health and safety of all animals on the property
Communicates with boarders regarding health and wellbeing of their animals and updates care directives as required.
Coordinates with Program and Volunteer coordinator on volunteer orientations and shifts
Communicates with therapy team on health and wellbeing on animals
Communicates with the Executive Director regarding any boarder concerns or facilities needs.
Monitors day labor to ensure all daily tasks are completed.
Coordinates with day labor to facilitate weekly tasks ensuring ongoing upkeep/maintenance of the property is maintained.
Conducts daily turn-in of animals ensuring all have adequate food and water and have received grain. Turn-in time varies by season.
Provides night check of all animals 7 days per week at 9pm.
Addresses issues as they arise
Conducts daily chores if day labor unavailable-Paid separately at $20 per hour.
QUALIFICATIONS
At least 5 years of horse experience, working in a barn or in stable management.
Basic equine first aid knowledge.
Current CPR certification.
Ability to demonstrate ground work skills sufficient to keep horses, clients and therapists safe.
Knowledge, training or experience with Equine assisted psychotherapy is a plus.
Valid Colorado driver’s license.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
Ability to lift and move 50+ pound bales of hay and 25 pound bags of grain.
Ability to work outdoors in all weather.
Ability to safely lead, capture, tack 1000+ lb animals on a regular basis.
Ability to traverse over various terrain that includes mud, hills, etc. at any time.
