Public Information ManagerDuration: 3+ MonthsLocation : San Jose, CA (Flexible 7 days a week, 40 hours per week, hybrid) Description:Enhance public understanding and involvement in how the client uses data, technology, and infrastructure to serve residents while protecting their privacy. Coordinate and participate in community engagements. For example, attending neighborhood community meetings, Flea markets, and online interactive sessions. Oversee all citywide communication and public-facing releases from the Information Technology Department, ensuring consistent messaging across engagements. Create and deploy physical and electronic copies of, press releases, webpages and correspondences. Create, manage and respond to social media engagements about IT related projects/programs, including videos or other social media content. Build new and manage existing relationships with community outreach partners e.g. The Promotores, Path, Project HOPE, other public and privacy agencies, etc. Respond to media inquiries and Public Records Act requests. Create and implement internal communications to increase staff awareness of IT programs including cybersecurity best practices and IT business automation tools. Develop multilingual communications evaluation tools and metrics to enhance best practices in communication strategies and tactics. Verbal and written communication with Mandarin, Vietnamese and/or Spanish ideal. Host special events that promote important public events/ holidays, such as 311 day and international privacy day. Help create messaging and train staff to provide professional responses to customers. Help create professional outgoing messaging for application and web response templates. Desirable QualificationsFlexibility of time for occasional travel, meetings, conferences. Driver’s Lic and transportation to the event/location. More Info:
- A public information manager is responsible for curating a positive public image for the client. Be an ambassador who regularly interacts with the larger community.
- The PIM must share information in a way that is completely accurate and abides by official policy and law.
- Job responsibilities will include:
- The role is going to be involved in all sections of IT
- Cyber, call center, privacy and data – core groups.
- Need a PIM – Public Information Manager.
- Need an excellent communicator – really want a representative when they are going to meetings for communities.

- Help with Memo’s
- Managing social media engagements. Current staff is struggling with this. All communication, banners, flyers are able to make this all neutral
- Understanding technology/tech savvy
- How the client uses data, technology to serve residents – this is a big plus.
- Lots of coordination, public requests that come in – ie handle the media and public relations aspect. Collaboration. Interacting with those groups regularly. Reporting into Devika.
- Excellent Writing skills - examples – data that describes the ethnicities in IT. What would be the right way of portraying this data. Equality
- Public sector is a plus
