The Riviera Ridge School seeks an experienced and motivated JK-8th STEM Integration Educational Specialist for the 2024-2025 school year.
The candidate should demonstrate the ability to provide a student-centered classroom environment and positive learning experience, as well as foster intellectual curiosity and critical thinking skills through project based learning, design thinking and hands-on experiences.
QUALIFYING CHARACTERISTICS
Knowledge and understanding of and commitment to the school’s Mission, Vision & Core Values
Bachelor’s and/or Master’s degree in engineering, computer science, technology integration, or education
State of California Multiple Subject Teaching Credential with an emphasis on STEM integration, preferred
Knowledge of the current theories, techniques and methodologies of STEM instruction for children ages 3-14.
Experience in one or more of the following is helpful but not required:
Design thinking principles, project based learning, and inquiry based learning
Computer programming languages/tools/apps for kids
3D design/printing
Kid-friendly tech like MaKey MaKey, littleBits, Snap Circuits, Sphero & VEX robotics
Game design
Stop-motion movie making & editing
Microcontrollers
2D design/graphic design
Woodworking/power tools
Digital fabrication
Crafting, designing, building, hacking, and making in general
Ability to write new lesson plans in a tech-arts field in which you are passionate/skilled is a big plus
Three years prior teaching experience at the elementary and middle school level
Flexibility in working across grade levels
Demonstrated knowledge of subject area and a strong background in curriculum and instruction, classroom management, and assessment
Conversant in 21st century education practices
Proficiency in Apple Education, Google Suite and Google Apps for Education
Experience teaching with commonly available educational software
Experience with a variety of technology in the classroom such as computers (Mac), digital projectors, document cameras, Interactive Whiteboards, and iPads
Excellent verbal and written communications skills
Demonstrated leadership and facilitative skills
Strong public speaking skills
Ability to interact with students, parents, faculty and staff
Flexibility in working with a variety of faculty across the divisions on faculty committees
Strong ability to work collegially across divisions and Student Support Team
ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES
Collaborate with Associate Head of School and Academic Leadership and Innovation Team, Division Coordinators and faculty in planning the integration of creativity and design thinking into the curriculum and supporting teachers as they implement the lessons in the Center for Creative Design and Engineering (CDEC) as well as their classrooms.Design instruction that emphasizes critical thinking and problem solving through discovery and evaluation while making content relevant to students’ lives today
Manage, maintain and oversee budget, equipment and supplies needed to support all CDEC programming and JK-8 curriculum planning for use of CDEC and supporting STEM initiatives.
Demonstrate expertise/passion in STEM/STEAM (science, technology, engineering, arts, math)
Design and implement hands-on projects in design thinking, coding, material engineering, robotics, and 3D printing across all grade levels.
Deliver STEM-oriented instruction through Project-Based Learning methods within the MS STEAM Electives program (6th-8th grades) in Engineering, Robotics and Coding, and Computer Science.
Create a safe and engaging environment in the Center for Creative Design and Engineering for students in JK-8th.
Work collaboratively with Associate Head of School, Director of Technology Services, Division Coordinators, and faculty to develop interdisciplinary and cross curricular projects.
Supervise recess, lunch, drop-off, pick-up and assemblies as needed.
Facilitate, create, and participate in a variety of STEM related admission activities, clubs, enrichment programming, and other events.
Collaborates and plans Annual Maker Fair with the Associate Head of School for Advancement and Senior Administrative Leadership Team
Participate in the “life of the school” through service projects, assemblies, community garden, admissions events, mission related professional development and advancement events.
Seek and take part in professional development to enhance professional knowledge and educational training.
Actively participate in weekly faculty meetings.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS AND WORK ENVIRONMENT
Works in school environment dealing with a wide variety of challenges, deadlines, and a varied and diverse array of contacts
Occasionally bend, stoop, and squat
May work at a desk and computer for extended periods of time
Be able to occasionally lift up to 40 lbs.
Willing to work some evening and weekends for school related events or projects

This position is a permanent, full-time position. Pay is competitive and is commensurate with education, experience, and skills.
Salary Range: $70,000 - $100,000 depending on experience
