Position Summary:

Under the supervision of the Health Services Director, plans, organizes and directs the daily activities of the EMT Security department. Position entails protection of personnel and property and providing first responder care in an emergency setting using skills obtained through basic EMT certification. Preserves order and enforces regulations for staff, residents, and visitors.

Major Duties and Responsibilities:

Staffing: Hires, trains, develops talent and monitors performance of the EMT Security Officers. Corrects performance deficiencies and takes appropriate disciplinary action as required. Rewards performance when merited.

Performs EMT Security Officer duties including, but not limited to, responding to security situations and alarm calls; assessing problems and resolving them; preventing unauthorized access to restricted areas, escorting personnel from building during and after normal business hours, and notifying company personnel regarding emergency situations.

Responsible for overall guidance and standardization in developing security policies outlining measures and procedures for handling initial medical responses, fraud, theft, evacuation, workplace violence, access to building and other emergency situations.

Develops and coordinates emergency and contingency plans; the development and implementation of effective training programs regarding security of staff members, assets, and equipment; monitors security orientation and training for new hires; monitors security systems including closed circuit television, intrusion, and fire and duress alarms and oversees inspection and maintenance of security devices.

Provides EMT duties including accident scene assessments, assessment and stabilization of injured persons, creating well-written documentation, and administering basic health procedures, such as bandaging wounds.

Coordinates, documents, and actively participates in Fire and Disaster Drills on all shifts as required, providing copies of documented drills to the Assisted Living Manger and maintains file for EMT Security Department.

Demonstrates excellent surveillance and emergency response skills.

Enforces correction of infractions through verbal and written warnings, and notifies law enforcement agencies when necessary.

Has ability to write clear, concise, and accurate reports that include daily logs and reports of incidents that occur. Maintains comprehensive records of all incidents and investigations.

Ensures the department provides after-hours non-emergency transportation when staffed to do so, and provides light maintenance as required.

Committed to keeping sensitive information confidential.

Develops and maintains a high level of staff morale, a low turnover rate and staff motivation through daily meetings, fairness, regular performance observations and assessments.

Responsible for staff member payroll input for proper allocation of regular time, overtime and requested time off. Develops schedules to ensure sufficient 24/7 coverage of the campus. monitors staff hours worked, minimizes overtime hours and limits total wages to budgeted wages.

Creates and manages the department budget, with the approval of the Health Services Director including the operating and capital budgets while meeting budgetary guidelines. Annually, prepare budget recommendations and obtain the CFOs approval. Required to manage the department within the approved annual budget.

Is responsible for issuance and maintenance of security department radios, keys, and golf carts.

Chairman of the Safety Committee. Ensures the committee meets regularly to help prevent injury and illness on the job; increase awareness of health and safety issues among staff; and develops strategies to improve safety in the work environment.

Attends and participates in management training activities, seminars, and meetings.

Performs other duties and projects as assigned.

Knowledge and Skills:

-Must be at least 21 years of age and speak, read and write English.

-Knowledge of laws, regulations, and safety compliance.

-Computer Proficiency- Microsoft Word/Excel, Outlook and Internet.

-Able to investigate and analyze situations.

-Individual needs to be organized, able to multi-task, think creatively and adapt to different situations.

Education and Experience:

-Has a high school diploma or GED equivalent REQUIRED

-Minimum Associates Degree in relevant field of knowledge for the position / REQUIRED. (Example types of Associates Degrees accepted, but not limited to: Fire Science, Criminal Justice, Safety, Security, Health and Safety, Occupational Health and Safety, Environmental Health and Safety).

-Five or more years of experience in managing and training staff in the medical and/or security field.

-Has current EMT certification by the National Registry of Emergency Technicians (NREMT)

-Has current current CPR/BLS and First Aid certification.

-Obtain Fingerprint clearance card within 20 days of hire. We will assist with this.

-Must have current, valid Arizona driver's license with a good driving record.

Communication Skills:

-Clear speaking voice, must be fluent in English:

-Ability to speak, work and interface with all levels of co-workers, residents, guests and employees.

-Ability to write routine reports and correspondence.

-Excellent telephone and customer service etiquette.

Physical Requirements:

-Work alone most of the time.

-Able to endure harsh weather conditions such as but not limited to rain, extensive heat and cold.

-Will be required to stand for long periods of time.

-Must be able to lift 25 pounds.

-Must be in good physical condition in order to perform job functions, such as, walking extensively, climbing, and responding to emergency situations.

-Can operate a fire extinguisher.

-Is able to assist in the evacuation of residents.

Supervisory Responsibility:

-The ability to supervise staff (approximately 15+ staff members)

-Organize and complete tasks proficiently.

-The ability to successfully react to any situation that may present itself with a resident, guest, co-worker, or employee.
