  • Use metrology (measurement) equipment to characterize optical components of a VR (Virtual Reality) system.
  • Characterization of optical components include:
    • Roughness or geometry profile of optical elements such as lenses.
    • Color profile or spectral response of displays, lenses, etc.
    • Thickness, flatness, and parallelism of optical components.
    • MTF, PSF, ESF are linked to the optical response of optical elements.
    • Polarization or spectral response of optical elements.
    • Other forms of characterization might take place and are not limited to, such as stress and birefringence testing.
  • Alignment of optical components for testing and characterization.
  • Create test experiments and jigs to perform analysis on optical components.
  • Relay test and characterization report to manufacturing team for feedback on production.
  • Relay experiment results to the engineering team for feedback on optical design.
  • Provide insight and data on optical system improvements.
  • Use ImageMaster Opti-Centric to center optical components for testing.
  • Use ImageMaster HR for MTF measurements and characterization.
  • Use interferometers to test films, lenses, and surfaces geometry and thickness.
  • Characterize display color spectrum and intensity of pixels.
  • Present results to a multi-disciplinary team to find solutions and improvements.
  • Work on the development of new technology for VR systems including:
    • Projection technology.
    • Light modulation (standard lenses, fresnel lenses, metalenses, thin films).
    • Polarization control technology (Beamsplitters, mirrors, and birefringence).
    • Simulation for optical systems.
    • Optical filtering (Thin films, filters, diffusers, polarizers, color filters, selective mirrors).
    • Waveguides and prism technology.
