Job DetailsOur client is seeking an experienced Senior Mechanical Engineer to support the design, development and integration of future powertrain technologies and the integration into multiple commercial applications. You will be joining an experienced, innovative team in the engineering and manufacturing optimization of complex mechanical and thermal systems.The mechanical engineer will help shape the design of our vehicle electrification technologies out of Cedar Park, TXEssential Functions:
  • Design future products using sound engineering principles and adhering to business standards, practices, procedures, and product / program requirements. This work may include mechanical and/or electrical engineering hardware.
  • Lead the design and integration of various powertrain technologies and associated sub-systems focusing on maximizing commonality, minimizing complexity, optimizing cost, weight, manufacturability, ease of assembly, and serviceability.
  • Develop packaging concepts and facilitate trade-off discussions with key stake holders from various teams including engineering and operations.
  • Lead weekly design reviews to present findings and propose solutions for any identified conflicts. Manage trade-off discussions and engineering decisions.
  • Lead execution of virtual builds in preparation for physical prototypes.
  • Support the release process and PLM administration.
  • Collaborate with various stake holders to create design and process FMEAs, identifying significant and critical characteristics for inclusion for design consideration.
  • Support the identification and selection of suppliers to support prototype and production needs.
  • Support continuous improvement initiatives such as VAVE to continually improve product and reduce costs.
  • Apply design knowledge and experience to develop accurate cost models for both internally and externally designed and sourced components.
  • Support the design checking process by reviewing prints and ensuring tolerances, processes and material specifications are aligned with the Hyliion product design guidelines.
  • Support the purchasing process to and assist in the procurement of hardware from key suppliers as needed.

  • Automotive experience with working knowledge of truck (or related mobility application) powertrain, drivetrain, and general under hood packaging.
  • Vehicle electrification experience including motor, inverter, battery systems and general electrical hardware knowledge.
  • Experience in fluid/thermal systems design and optimization.
  • Experience in NX 3D CAD tools with a history of creating 2D prints with associated GD&T. Ability to design complex mechanical systems.
  • Experience in structural and thermal FEA toolsets.
  • Highly collaborative personality with a willingness to learn and adapt involving interaction with adjacent functions to solve complex issues.
  • Experience in high voltage and associated safety protocols.
  • APQP experience including the creation of Boundary Diagrams, FMEAs and DVP&R.
  • Ability to design and troubleshoot complex mechanical and thermal systems.
  • Ability to effectively and positively communicate verbally and in writing with customers (internal and external), to address their needs promptly and to follow through on commitments.
  • Good problem solving and good communication skills, excellent numeracy and spatial awareness.
  • Ability to understand and follow complex verbal and written instructions. Strong follow-through and self-starting nature.
  • Willingness to travel: Position may involve travel visiting engineering providers and hardware suppliers (10%).
  • Experience using should-cost analysis tools to determine the true manufacturing costs for key components.
  • Competency with Microsoft Office Suite.
Required Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering
  • 10-15 years of experience.
Desired Qualifications:
  • Master's degree in manufacturing engineering.
  • 5 years in a high-volume automotive manufacturing environment.
