Dynamic Locomotion, “Dynaloco”, is looking for a Robotics Engineer to design, fabricate, and test our dynamic and energy-efficient mobile robots and machines. The Robotics Engineer will work on one or more hardware development contracts and will be involved in the entire robot design process, from initial concepts to detailed mechanical/electrical/control design, prototyping, manufacturing, assembly, and testing. The Robotics Engineer will interact directly with Dynaloco’s clients to understand their needs and ensure that the final product meets or exceeds the clients’ requirements.
Our ideal candidate will embrace: working in a fast-paced, entrepreneurial and collaborative environment; creating cool machines individually and as a team; and continually learning and finding new solutions to engineering challenges. Candidates should have experience in the design of machines and mechatronic systems, either in mechanical design, electrical and electronics engineering, controls and embedded programming, or some combination of these. Experience designing machines for production is a plus.
This position can include some remote work and flexibility in schedule and hours, but as a hardware-oriented position, the Robotics Engineer will generally work during business hours on-site in our Groton, NY facility. The responsibilities of this position can be adapted to fit a candidate's skill set, and candidates with more than the listed qualifications are eligible for a more senior title and higher compensation.
Responsibilities include, but are not limited to, some or all of the following:
Providing engineering input during all stages of product development
Creating detailed mechanism designs, including bearings, gears, motors, chains, springs, and other components
Design of real-time distributed systems for sensors and motor control
Industrial electronics and control panel design and testing
Performing high-reliability mechanical design and analysis for robot applications
Generating fabrication documentation and vendor specifications
Meeting with clients and understanding requirements to create product specifications
Manufacturing, assembling, and testing components and complete robots
Desired qualifications
Positive attitude, highly motivated, and excited to solve problems and learn
Bachelor’s Degree or higher in Electrical/Robotics/Mechanical Engineering (or equivalent degree title). M.S./M.Eng. is a plus.
1-2 years minimum of experience (including internships) in an engineering position which includes both design and hands-on work.
Experience in 3D CAD programs (SolidWorks preferred) and/or ECAD.
Ability to work on-site in Groton, NY to develop and test hardware
Ability to demonstrate theoretical and practical engineering fundamentals
Hands-on experience designing, assembling, and testing mechanical assemblies and controls
Design for manufacturing and assembly
Familiarity with typical fabrication processes
Ability to earn trust, maintain positive and professional relationships, and strengthen our culture of inclusion
Organized, detail-oriented, and committed to producing well-documented products
Commitment to continuous improvement of company processes and products as it grows
Candidates who meet some, but not all qualifications listed above are strongly encouraged to apply!
Compensation for this position is highly dependent on experience and skills. Equity is available as supplemental compensation for permanent employees. Base starting salary for a new BS graduate is $70,000 per year, with salaries up to $90,000 per year for highly-qualified applicants.
