Quirky Books LLC, a small online and wholesale bookseller in business since 2006, is opening a brick-and-mortar used bookstore just east of Nob Hill in Albuquerque.

This position focuses on receiving inventory, stocking shelves, and providing customer service in the retail store, but will include a variety of other responsibilities, including some warehouse work. Three Retail Coordinators will share primary responsibility for all store-related operations, with the store owner and office/warehouse employees as back-up. Duties may include:
Providing welcoming and courteous service to customers, browsers, and other visitors to the store
Assisting customers with locating and purchasing books, answering questions, operating cash register and credit card machine, and providing other customer service
De-escalating and resolving conflicts and security issues
Purchasing used books from customers at the store
Opening and/or closing store as scheduled
Moving and assembling bookcases and other furniture
Receiving, sorting, and pricing incoming shipments of books and other merchandise
Stocking shelves, arranging and straightening inventory, and periodically removing stale inventory
Creating appropriate in-store signage and displays
Preparing deposits and delivering to bank
General store management, including ordering supplies, answering phone calls, cleaning and straightening, arranging for building maintenance, etc.
Developing and updating Operations Manuals
Participating in outreach to community organizations regarding fundraising partnerships
Filling in for staff at office as needed.
Assisting with owner’s other businesses and personal projects as needed (time to be tracked separately for accounting purposes)
Additional duties as needed
Warehouse duties may include:
Receiving and sorting incoming shipments of books
Adding, repositioning, and removing warehouse inventory
Assisting with packing and transportation of large collections of used books
Pulling books from warehouse inventory for online listings or fulfillment of wholesale orders
Preparing outgoing shipments.
Qualifications include:
Reliable, on-time, attendance
Ability to work both alone, without supervision, and in cooperation with others
Ability to have positive interactions with a wide variety of people and de-escalate any conflicts
Attention to detail
Good communication and customer service skills
Ability to lift boxes weighing up to 45 pounds as needed
Reliable vehicle and clean driving record
COVID vaccination required
Optional (but helpful) qualifications might include:
Building maintenance (handyperson) skills
Social media marketing skills
Writing and editing skills
Connections with local community organizations and artists
The Retail Coordinators are expected to keep regular store hours at our location near Central and Jefferson, east of Nob Hill. This is a full time (30 to 40 hours per week) position.
Compensation: $15.00 per hour; mileage reimbursement; 2 weeks annual paid time off.
