Job Summary: the job is multi-faceted with the primary duties serving as the Assistant Supervisor with some responsibilities as the Working Foreman as needed. Principal job is reading plans and performing carpentry duties such as framing and sheathing, trip carpentry with skillsets in other construction trades. Secondary duties are to assist project supervisor in overseeing, scheduling and coordinating the work of employees and subcontractors in relevant construction roles.
Primary Job - Journeyman Carpenter Duties/Responsibilities: Read plans, blueprints and drawings to accurately plan and construct projects. Prepare for construction activities-determine materials and tools needed for projects and retrieve from supply companies and cut and shape construction materials to precise specifications based on accurate measurements. Construct foundations and various structures, perform framing, trim and finish work. Fabricate and cut wood components and fabricate framework, build cabinets and case work, layout and install staircases, cut and install exterior siding, and install windows and doors with their hardware, hang and finish drywall, install siding, install wood subflooring and final wood flooring and prepare sub surfaces and install wall and floor tile. Other tasks as assigned.
Required Skills/Abilities: Ability to read blueprints and other reports outlining specifications. Thorough understanding of construction trades and capable of performing rough and trim carpentry as well as multiple construction trades at a skilled level. Skilled in operating and maintaining stationary shop tools and equipment. Thorough understanding of materials, methods and tools used in construction practices. Organizational and problem-solving skills. Ability to analyze situations and identify ways to improve efficiency while maintaining safe work environment. Excellent interpersonal and management skills. Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
Secondary Job - Working Foreman Responsibilities: Assist job supervisor in assigning, scheduling, and supervising the work of construction staff, contractors, suppliers to ensue work is completed on schedule. Assists supervisor in ensuring each assigned construction worker follows all safety standards.
Working Foreman Duties/Responsibilities: Assist in Overseeing the project/work site, ensuring safety standards are followed and quality work is being performed in a timely manner. Assist in confirming availability of staff. Assist in confirming availability and use of proper materials and tools; recognizes and promptly addresses issues so that work can continue on schedule. Resolve problems and coordinates activities for the job through collaboration and communication with job supervisors and contractors to assist with job supervision. Identify and recommends solutions for production problems, as required. Perform other related duties as assigned.
Education and Experience: High school diploma or equivalent required; 2 yeas college or more preferred. At least five years of related construction industry experience required. Proficient with industry hand and power tools required to perform a variety of assigned tasks. Understanding of basic safety OSHA requirements and use of tools in safe manner including wearing proper protective equipment. Must have personal tools required to perform a wide variety of assigned tasks. Reliable transportation and valid driver's license. Spanish speaking a plus.
