Banyan Botanicals is seeking an exceptional Quality Manager to oversee quality control and assurance at our two Albuquerque locations. Banyan Botanicals always seeks to produce the highest quality products that meet not only our highest expectations but those of our customers. The Quality Manager will be responsible for overseeing and leading Banyan’s Quality team and responsible for implementing quality systems and processes. This includes ensuring all released products are developed, manufactured, and distributed according to Banyan’s high-quality standards and in compliance with relevant regulations; the creation and maintenance of all material and product specifications; ensuring all processes outlined in the SOPs are followed; maintain and oversee all certifications, including cGMP and Organic; and act as an ambassador for overall quality awareness and improvement within Banyan. The Quality Manager will be the primary liaison with the FDA and local Health Departments and responsible for conducting all necessary corrective actions and reports.

Primary Duties/Responsibilities

Develop and/or maintain all quality systems and processes at Banyan's Albuquerque facilities.

Manage, develop and train the quality control personnel; oversees QC operations and all day-to-day personnel matters to ensure Banyan’s product standards of quality are met.

Manage and create all product and material specifications sourced by the company; manage the documentation and updating of SOPs, MMRs and other documents for the compliance of the FDA, organic, and Fair for Life organizations; review product handling to ensure quality compliance to established processes.

Act as overall authority on approval and rejection of raw materials, finished products, incoming ingredients, and packaging components based on internal specifications; perform thorough investigations on Out of Specifications (OOS) results.

Oversee Sanitation & sampling team activities

Responsible for the creation and monitoring of the QC Budget

Act as lead on HAACP/FSMA team and conduct internal mock audits and recalls; responsible for leading and creating recall process

Draft, edit, review, track changes and train employees on company SOPs

Main point of contact for government compliance and certifications (i.e. FDA inspections and organic certification inspections and applications); create reports summarizing findings and act as lead for CAPA follow-ups

Responsible for all external audits of contract manufacturers, laboratories, and suppliers (with Sourcing team); proactively meet, develop with contractor(s), and execute (also in collaboration with Sourcing team) Quality Agreements as necessary to ensure that all roles and responsibilities related to quality are defined and implemented between the Company and contracted firms prior to performing activities associated with the manufacture, packaging, labeling or holding of our dietary supplement product(s)

Review and approve internal bulk labels, internal finished product labels, and private labels in accordance with current federal regulations and other agency regulations

Work closely with the Customer Service Manager on all customer/product complaints; insure timely follow-ups and responsible for all SAE/AE reporting

Ensure testing is completed in a timely manner and is compliant with all applicable regulatory requirements.

Ensure proper communication between quality teams; communicate quality data and issues regularly and clearly with Operations and Herbal Affairs teams.

Identify and implement process/procedural improvements related to Quality Control functions to improve efficiencies and effectiveness. Collect and prepare data for metrics reporting to Banyan’s Leadership team.

Purchase, maintain calibration and maintenance of all laboratory instruments

Ensure all QC purchases are compliant with Banyan’s Social and Environmental Purchasing Policy; ensure that QC lab and processes meet Banyan’s SER principles.

Maintain current understanding of industry trends that affect production and quality of products.

Engage with trade organizations, such as AHPA, as needed.

Responsible for custody and safe keeping of Banyan materials

Adhere to Banyan’s values and social and environmental responsibility (SER) principles

Strong Leadership skills including the ability to build a harmonious team, create a positive work environment within the Quality department and collaboration and communication between departments

Ability to direct personnel engaged in inspection/reception of materials and compliance of quality

Excellent knowledge of standards and government regulations and organic certifications; familiarity with NSF and SQF helpful.

Interest in the market trends and dynamics of materials and sourced goods and their specifications

Ability to gather and analyze data.

Ability to bring people together and reconcile differences

Able to apply complex analytics and conceptual thinking skills to develop and evaluate options and implement solutions.

Strong project and time management skills

Excellent communication skills: the person in this position regularly converses and collaborates with co-workers and vendors and must express oneself and exchange information with clear direction and respect.

Coordination/Planning – Coordination between multiple teams and departments is required. Planning the year calendar and quarterly goals is required

Organization/Teamwork – Ability to work with the operations team to successfully protect and ensure the efficacy and quality standards of the company.

Self-Initiation – must be able to work independently and self-start projects while maintaining clear reporting to Director of Herbal Science & Research and Director of Operations.

Position requires domestic and international travel.

Qualifications

Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Quality Assurance or a science field (Biology, Botany, Chemistry, etc); an equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to successfully perform the key accountabilities of the job required.

5+ years of experience managing quality and/or regulatory department in dietary/herbal supplements or food manufacturing, with extensive experience and understanding of cGMP regulations and

Training in herbalism, botany or extensive experience with botanicals is preferred.

Experience with Organic and other certifications (non-GMO, Kosher, etc); experience with cGMP certification is strongly preferred.

HACCP/FSMA Qualification strongly preferred, PCQI

Microbiological background or background in environmental sampling

Excellent computer skills and comfortable learning new software

Familiarity with HPLC, HPTLC, and FTIR strongly preferred.

Proficiency/conversational skills in Spanish is helpful.

Math skills. Must be proficient with numbers

Familiarity with sourcing and vendor relationships as it pertains to quality specifications

Position is based in Albuquerque, New Mexico.

Compensation

Salary is commensurate with the delineated duties and the candidate’s experience and ability.
