Client seeks a Materials Engineer with the ability to bring new materials to consumer products at scale. We are looking for slightly impatient individuals willing to face down their fear of failure to accomplish bold things.
Responsibilities:
In this role, you will work on test and characterization of materials in a laboratory setting.
Use fundamental materials engineering principles to design test setups to measure properties (mechanical, optical, chemical, etc.) of materials.
Prepare sample coupons for testing.
Work cross functionally with engineers to design innovative characterization techniques to advance the state of the art.
Present findings to materials engineers and help interpret experimental results.
Work with vendors to commission new equipment.
Work with vendors to maintain and upgrade existing equipment.
Basic qualifications:
Bachelor's degree in materials science, chemical engineering, chemistry, physics, mechanical engineering or a related field.
Experience with some or all the following characterization techniques:
Mechanical testing: tension/compression, 4point bend, lap shear, etc.
Hardness/impact tests
DMA, Rheometry
Microscopy
Experience with preparing material sample coupons for testing
Preferred qualifications:
Experience with some or all of the following characterization techniques:
FTIR and UVVIS spectroscopy
SEM, EDS, XPS, XRF
DSC, TGA, TMA, thermal diffusivity
Experience with MATLAB and Python programming
6-month contract, possibly extended up to a total of 24 months if things go well.
New graduate or little work experience can apply. No PhDs.
