Job Description
Facilities Management, Residential Facilities, seeks a Painter Lead to lead crews in performing painting related assignments.
Salary Range
$24.14 - $26.91 per hour commensurate of experience and education. ASU offers a comprehensive benefits package with the State of Arizona.

Essential Duties
Schedule, assigns and inspects work of painting crews. Coordinate work assignments in relation to university functions and event. Train and arranges training opportunities for crew. Ensure crew attendance at trainings/meetings. Assist in assessing work performance of painting crews. Tracks and orders paint and painting supplies for Residential Services properties. Participate in painting related work such as applying protective and decorative coatings of paint, varnish, lacquer and other materials to interior and exterior surfaces of buildings, furniture, equipment and structure. Assign and perform drywall repair and installation (mud, patch, texture, and paint.) Wash, scrape and sand interior and exterior surfaces prior to applying finishes, varnishing, lacquering or applying materials. Utilize hand tools (e.g. scraper, hand masker, screw driver, cordless drill, sander, paint mixer), power tools (e.g. compressor, striping machine, sandblaster, spray equipment), and equipment (e.g. boom truck & scissor-lift). Utilize personal protective equipment (e.g. safety glasses, respirator). Erect, climb and work off scaffolding and ladders to reach surfaces to paint and apply surface coatings. Plan and supervise work of contractors and vendors. Lift and carry up to 55 lbs. Drive university vehicle.
DAYS AND SCHEDULE: Monday – Friday, 7:00 am – 5:30 pm, 10-hour work shifts, day off - to be determined.
Minimum Qualifications
Completion of a three year federally approved technical training program in painting AND one and one half years of painting experience; OR, Seven years of progressively responsible painting experience; OR, Any equivalent combination of experience and/or education from which comparable knowledge, skills and abilities have been achieved. Employee must possess a valid US Driver’s license of the appropriate class and required endorsements throughout employment.
Desired Qualifications
One year experience supervising painters/crews.
Experience in: ordering supplies; estimating paint projects; customer service.
Knowledge of: Microsoft applications (Outlook, Word, Excel, Access, etc.).
Experience with work-order systems (tracking & ordering paint and painting supplies for paint crew).
Evidence of effective communication skills.
Working Environment
Wash, scrape and sand interior and exterior surfaces prior to painting, varnishing, lacquering or applying materials. Utilize hand tools (e.g. scrapers, hand masker, screw drivers, cordless drill, sander, paint mixer), power tools (e.g. compressors, striping machines, sandblasters, airless sprayers), and equipment. Utilize personal protective equipment (e.g. safety glasses, negative pressure and positive pressure respirator). Erect, climb, and work off scaffolding, staging, ladders, and planks to reach surfaces to paint and apply surface coatings. Works in extreme temperatures, confined areas, air contamination and with hazardous materials.

This position is located at the University Services Building, 1551 S. Rural Road, Tempe, AZ (on Rural Road south of Apache Blvd).
Must pass pre-employment physical examination post offer of employment to include asbestos worker clearance, respiratory clearance questionnaire and respiratory fit test.
Must possess a valid Arizona driver's license (minimum of Class D) upon employment and maintain throughout employment. Post-offer of employment, selected candidate must possess an acceptable driving record which is 5 or fewer points in the most recent 39 month period from date of hire.
This position is dependent on the continuation of funding from a specific source other than state appropriations. As such, this appointment may terminate when the funding is no longer available.
